ISCO 08 - 5113 - Tourist Guiding

Tourist Guidance programme aims to train well-equipped and professional tourist guides who can operate in the tourism sector. Within the scope of the programme, students gain cultural heritage knowledge, geographical structure, travel planning, tour management, communication skills and foreign language proficiency. Graduates have the theoretical knowledge and practical experience to take part in national and international tour organisations.

Students will be able to;

• Have the ability to understand the basic structure of the tourism sector, its functioning process and its contribution to the national economy.
• Follow the information in the field and to communicate with colleagues uses the knowledge of foreign language. 
• Have knowledge about Atatürk's principles and revolutions and adopt the basic values of the Republic.
• Practice the basic geographical values and problems of the world and to associate them with current events.
• Organize the processes of planning, realising and controlling a tour and fulfils them in a way to ensure visitor satisfaction.
• Continuously update and improve the legal regulations, professional standards, knowledge, skills and competences related to the field of tourism and Tourist Guiding with the awareness of lifelong learning.
• Have the ability to recognise, understand and communicate effectively with different cultures.
• Protect Turkey's tangible and intangible cultural heritage consciousness and evaluate the positive and negative examples of museology has sufficient consciousness.
• Create awareness about the culture, history, religion and arts of the civilisations that lived in Turkey.
• Evaluate Turkey's Archaeology and Art History in terms of the importance of the values and problems of Turkey's Archaeology and Art History in relation to current events.
• Protect the mythological and iconographic values of Turkey and its surroundings and has the ability to transfer them.
• Gain knowledge about the fauna and flora of Anatolian geography and to gain awareness by increasing sensitivity on these issues.
• Act with the awareness of occupational safety, environmental protection and quality, taking into account the requirements and ethical principles of the profession.

The Tourist Guidance programme is carried out in accordance with the quality standards of YÖK and Vocational School. The curriculum is regularly updated in cooperation with representatives of the tourism sector and the Chamber of Guides. In order to support the professional development of students, compulsory internship processes are meticulously evaluated and the effectiveness of the programme is constantly reviewed by taking employer evaluations. In addition, the employment rates of graduates in the sector are monitored and improvement studies are carried out to increase the quality of education.

Turkish Citizens: Students are admitted to the programme by central placement according to TYT score type. Students who are placed in the programme by OSYM are required to complete their financial obligations and register on the announced registration dates. Horizontal Transfer: A student who has started his/her education in an equivalent programme in Turkey or abroad can apply for transfer. The acceptance of the student is examined and evaluated individually before the start of the semester, taking into account the conditions of each student and the degree applied for. Graduates can work as professional tourist guides in travel agencies, tour operators, hotels, museums and historical sites. In addition, they have the opportunity to establish their own tour companies and entrepreneurship.
