Tarih bölümü tarihçi yetiştirmek amacıyla bir eğitim programı yürütmektedir. Eğitim planlarında zorunlu olan derslere ek olarak öğrencilerin tarih biliminde uzmanlaşmak istedikleri alana göre seçebilme şansları bulunan seçmeli dersler mevcuttur. Bununla birlikte ilgili alandaki her hizmet sahasında ya da iletişimde yetişmiş personel sağlamak da hedefler arasındadır.
- Tarihle ilgili bilimsel kaynaklarla desteklenen üst düzey bilgi ve becerileri kullanma kabiliyetine sahiptir ve bu bilgi ve becerileri mesleğinde ve araştırmalarında kullanır.
- Tarih disiplini ile ilgili kavramları, fikirleri ve verileri, sosyal bilimler araştırma metotlarıyla inceler ve değerlendirir, gün yüzüne çıkmamış (henüz araştırılmamış) konuları tanılar, analiz eder ve tartışır, bunlarla ilgili bilimsel bulgular ve kanıtlara dayalı öneriler geliştirir.
- Tarih disiplini ile ilgili konularda uzman ya da bilgisi olmayan dinleyicileri bilgilendirir, onlara elde ettiği bulgularla ilgili düşüncelerini açık bir biçimde yazılı ve sözlü olarak ifade eder.
- Tarih metodolojisini kullanarak, eleştirel düşünme, yaratıcı düşünme, yorumlama ve sentez yapma becerilerine sahiptir ve alanıyla ilgili çalışmaları bağımsız veya ortak çalışma olarak yürütebilir.
- Tarihi bilgi ve bulgu eksiklikleri nedeni ile henüz aydınlatılmamış konularda sorumluluk alır ve çözüm üretmeye çalışır.
- Sahasında çalışan kişilerin ilgi, istek ve ihtiyaçlarını bilir, içinde bulunduğu çevrenin sosyo-kültürel ve ekonomik özelliklerini tanır; bu özelliklere uygun öğretme ve öğrenme süreçlerini planlar, uygular ve yönetir.
- Öğrencilerin öğrenme sürecine etkin katılımını sağlar.alanında yapılmış güncel araştırmaları takip ederek yeterli düzeyde anlayabilir ve meslektaşları ile iletişim kurabilecek düzeyde yabancı dil bilgisine sahip olmayı amaç edinir (?European Language Portfolio Global Scale, Level B1).
